ABOUT THE STUDIO

Verweile Studio

"Verweile doch, du bist so schön."
— Goethe, Faust

Stay a while, you are so beautiful. In Goethe's Faust, it's the line that marks the exact moment a life is spent trying to hold on to — the instant just before something turns. Verweile Studio is built around that instant: not the bloom, not the decay, but the threshold between them, held a moment longer than it would naturally last.

The studio is based in London. Threshold of Decay, its first series, works in double exposure — two states of the same subject held in a single frame, neither one allowed to fully win. Future series will each find their own way of holding a threshold; double exposure is simply where this one began.

How the work is made

Every image is digitally composed using AI-assisted photographic techniques. The studio directs every decision — the composition, the light, the exact degree of overlap between bloom and decay — through many rounds of deliberate revision, not a single generated result accepted as-is. Nothing is passed off as traditional photography or hand-painted work.

Each finished print is produced as an archival giclée, limited to an edition of five, individually numbered, and signed. Every print also carries an invisible digital watermark — you can check any print from this studio yourself, without needing to take our word for it.
